However, when a tooth has been severely affected by decay, infection, trauma, or extensive wear, and can no longer be predictably restored, an extraction may be the best option to protect your overall oral health.

When Might You Need a Tooth Extraction?

A tooth extraction may be recommended if:

• Advanced gum disease has loosened the tooth

What Happens During an Extraction?

Simple Extraction

Most extractions are straightforward procedures performed under local anaesthetic.

Once the area is completely numb, the tooth is gently loosened and removed. Most patients experience pressure during the procedure but little to no discomfort.

Surgical Extraction

In some cases, a tooth may be difficult to access or remove. This may occur when a tooth is broken below the gumline or has not fully erupted.

A small incision may be made in the gum to allow the tooth to be removed safely and comfortably. The Dentist will explain the procedure in detail and ensure you are fully informed before treatment begins.
