Sedation Dentistry
Feel Relaxed and Comfortable During Your Dental Treatment
Dental anxiety is extremely common, and if you're nervous about visiting the dentist, you're certainly not alone. Whether you've had a previous unpleasant experience, feel anxious about dental procedures, or simply find dental treatment stressful, sedation can help you feel calm, relaxed, and comfortable throughout your appointment.
At Mathee Dental Studio, we understand that dental anxiety can prevent people from receiving the care they need. Our priority is to provide treatment in a gentle, supportive environment and, where appropriate, sedation can help make your experience much easier.
When Might Sedation Be Helpful?
Sedation may be recommended if you:
- Feel anxious or fearful about dental treatment
- Have had difficult dental experiences in the past
- Need extensive dental treatment
- Have a strong gag reflex
- Find it difficult to sit comfortably for treatment
- Feel particularly nervous about injections or dental procedures
We will discuss your concerns and help determine whether sedation is the right option for you.
How Does Sedation Work?
Sedation helps you feel deeply relaxed while remaining comfortable and responsive during your treatment. Many patients feel as though their appointment passes very quickly and often remember very little of the procedure afterwards.
Sedation does not replace local anaesthetic. If treatment is required, the area will still be properly numbed to ensure your comfort.
Sedation Options at Mathee Dental Studio
Oral Sedation
The most used form of sedation involves taking a prescribed sedative tablet or liquid shortly before your appointment.
This medication helps reduce anxiety and promotes a calm, relaxed state during treatment.
Benefits of oral sedation include:
- Reduced anxiety and stress
- Greater comfort during treatment
- Little memory of the procedure for many patients
- Simple and effective administration
Because the effects may last for several hours after your appointment, you will need someone to drive you home.
Intravenous (IV) Sedation
For patients with more severe dental anxiety or those undergoing complex treatment, IV sedation may be an option.
This form of sedation is administered by a qualified anaesthetist and provides a deeper level of relaxation while allowing you to remain responsive throughout treatment.
We will advise you if IV sedation is appropriate for your individual circumstances.
Your Comfort Is Our Priority
Many patients are surprised by how comfortable and manageable dental treatment can be with the right support. Our team takes the time to listen to your concerns, explain procedures thoroughly, and ensure you feel safe and cared for every step of the way.
